Delivery Driver Fined £250 for Shoplifting While On Suspended Sentence
Jun 03, 2025
A delivery driver has been fined £250 for shoplifting from Sainsbury's in Coleraine.
George Simpson, aged 40, of Ballymadigan Road, Castlerock, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 30 May. He pleaded guilty to the theft of grocery items worth £92.48 on 14 March 2025.
The court was told that police received a report of the theft and reviewed CCTV footage showing Simpson selecting items, leaving the store without payment, and getting into a vehicle.
Simpson later admitted the offence and returned to pay for the stolen items.
His defence barrister, Jonathan Browne, said Simpson had made full admissions and had taken steps to rectify the loss. He also requested credit for an early guilty plea, stating that Simpson had lost his previous job as a result of a previous conviction but had since found new employment.
Judge King told the defendant: “There is no loss to Sainsbury's; your difficulty is your attendance at Antrim Crown Court in March 2023. You are subject to a suspended sentence.
“This event took place two-thirds of the way through the suspended sentence.
“The breach of the suspended sentence can be referred back to Antrim Crown Court to be dealt with.”
