Man Faces GBH, ABH Charges Over Dungiven Brawl
Feb 04, 2025
A man appeared in court today accused of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm.
Cathal O’Hara, of Mountainview Park in Dungiven, appeared via videolink at the Antrim Magistrates Court in Ballymena, facing three charges linked to an incident on February 2.
O’Hara is accused of trying to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent on a male complainant, of causing actual bodily harm to the same victim, and of possessing a screwdriver with intent to cause such harm. According to a statement released by the PSNI, officers were alerted to an incident at a house in the Mountainview Park area of Dungiven, where a report of an assault had been received.
On arrival, officers observed what appeared to be a fight between two males, with one sustaining a stab wound to the neck just above the collarbone.
In court, a police officer indicated that she believed the evidence linked O’Hara to all the charges. There were no objections to him being granted bail, and District Judge Nigel Broderick set bail at £500. Mr O’Hara was also given a number of conditions, including no contact with the alleged victim, residing at an address approved by police, and not being intoxicated in public. The judge noted that although bail had been granted, O’Hara would not be released until his approved bail address was confirmed.
The case has been adjourned until February 12.
